#34 Water Lilies — Mug

Monet dug the pond himself, diverted a stream to feed it, and then painted it for nearly thirty years — around 250 canvases of the same few square metres of water. Cataracts clouded his sight in his final decades and his colours shifted towards red and yellow; he had surgery in 1923 and repainted some of what he had done half-blind. Art Institute of Chicago.
